Car Battery Storage Guide
Protect battery life when storing your vehicle or spare battery
When to Store a Battery
- Storing your vehicle for 30 days or more
- Keeping a backup battery on hand
- During seasonal changes (e.g. storing boats, RVs, or powersports vehicles)
How to Store a Battery Properly

1. Charge Before Storage:
Fully charge the battery. A discharged battery can freeze or sulfate.
2. Store in a Cool, Dry Place:
Keep it below 80°F. Avoid direct sunlight and high humidity.
3. Disconnect the Battery:
If stored in the vehicle, disconnect the negative terminal to prevent parasitic drain.
4. Use a Battery Maintainer:
Keeps the battery safely charged without overcharging.
